Media is the fourth pillar of society and it plays an important role in the each stream of the society. To venerate the formation of ‘Press Council of India’, each year the day of its establishment i.e. November 16 is celebrated as National Press Day. PG Department of Computer Science and IT, Lyallpur Khalsa College organized a seminar on this day on the topic of “Print Media and Contemporary Scenaio”. In the seminar, Rajiv Bhaskar, Senior Journalist and Arun Kumar, Graphic Designer were the resource persons. Rajiv Bhaskar, while addressing the students of Journalism and Mass Communication and Printing Technology, stressed on the functioning of independent press and freedom of expression. He explained the press as an important constituent of the society, without which the injustice and uncertainties could prevail in the society. Mr. Bhaskar also focused on the basic qualities which a student of journalism should develop in himself such as analytical mind, knowledge of current affairs and command on a particular language etc. in order to become successful in the field of journalism. The lecture was followed by interactive session, in which the students asked their queries about the various aspects of free press. Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra, Principal, Lyallpur Khalsa College, focused on the relation between free press and overall growth of the nation and praised the department for organization of the lecture. Dr. Manohar Singh highlighted the role of press in a democracy like India and motivated the budding journalists to gain from the experiences of the senior persons from the field of journalism. The stage was conducted by Prof. Vijayta Taneja in a decent manner.Dr. Manohar Singh along with Prof. Sanjeev Anand, Prof. Sandeep Bassi, Dr. Baldev Singh, Prof. Manpreet Singh, Prof. Sandeep Singh, Prof. Mandeep Bhatia, Prof. Gagandeep Singh , Prof. Jatinder Kumar and Prof. Vinay Shweta honored the resource persons.
