The 2nd & 3rd Day of INSPIRE Camp at Lyallpur Khalsa College , Jalandhar remained eventful with informative sessions complemented with practicals & interactive session. Sessions included the floral welcome of the resource persons & presenting token of honour by honourable Principal Dr. G.S.Samra, Dr. Arun Dev Sharma (Co-ordinator Cum HOD, Biotech), Prof. Arunjit Kaur (HOD, Chem Dept), Dr. Manohar Singh (HOD, Comp.Sci.). Ist Speaker for the session Dr. Harpreet Kaur (Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Punjabi University , Patiala ), presented her talk on the topic “Science: A brief Introduction”. She defined science as efforts to discover & increase human understanding towards physical world. Observation plays an important role in building ideas and performing new experiments. She highlighted various mind boggling illustrations and informative videos of chemical combination that leads to innovations like Golden Rain, clock Reactions etc to share the amusing side of science. 2nd lecture was delivered by Dr. Steffy, a doctorate in the field of Microbiology, Deptt. of Microbiology, Panjab University , Chandigarh . She talked on “ Microbiology & Biotechnology tools for greener Industrial Processes Sustainable Environment and Health”. She discussed the use of fermented food products, prebiotics, Beverages, antibiotics since ages. She also emphasized the need of biotechnology to improve crop yield, Better Therapeutic agents and drug development. On the Third day distinguished resource person for the session Dr. P K Pati, Professor cum Head, Dept. of Biotechnology, Guru Nanak Dev University , Amritsar . The topic of his talk was on “Herbal Biotechnology”. which has widescale importance in improving quality of life. He discussed various scientific ways like genetic transformation, rNa interference for generation and propagation of plants. 2nd session of the day began with influencing talk of Dr. Dheeraj Vyaas, Senior Scientist, IIIM Jammu, on the topic “ Chemical Communication : Unheard , Unseen.” and explained the concept of molecular diversity in biological organisms. He motivated students to opt for research as a career prospective so as to help mankind. Third speaker Dr. Sumeet Gairola, Scientist, IIIM Jammu, discussed “Biodiversity and Bioprospection” in which he threw light on deterioration of nature by today’s lifestyle. Introspection of biological resources of social or commercial value is also needed. Students actively participated in the interactive session with the eminent resource persons. In view of fitness, Sports- Meet was also organized by the college to build up sportsmanship in students. Students actively participated in various events like 100m race, tug of war, sac race, etc with zeal and enthusiasm. Faculty members of various science departments graced the occasion.
