Lyallpur Khalsa College will conduct sports trials for the upcoming session 2024-25 on dates 06, 07 and 08 June 2024 in the S. Balbir Singh Sports Stadium of the college. Principal Dr. Jaspal Singh notified that sportsmen for Athletics, Basketball, Badminton, Boxing and Volleyball can appear for trials on the opening day of June 06. On 07 June, trials shall be conducted for Hockey, Wrestling, Weight Lifting, Handball, and Karate. On 8th June, the third and final day of the trials, Football, Baseball, Kho-Kho, Tennis and Cricket trials shall be held. He informed that graduate and higher secondary cleared candidates can report for these trials at 9 am sharp in their sports kit with original documents whilst assuring best facilities for promising sportsmen as an encouragement on behalf of the college. Opportunities to participate in inter-college, inter-varsity, national and international level sports will be provided.
A condolence meeting was held by the Post Graduate Punjabi Department of Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar on the untimely demise of eminent Punjabi poet and thinker Padmashri Dr. Surjit Patar. Principal Dr. Jaspal Singh, Dr. Surinder Pal Mand Head Punjabi Department, staff and students also participated in this meeting. On this occasion, Principal Dr. Jaspal Singh said that with the sudden death of Dr. Patar, while his family has suffered a great loss, the field of Punjabi literature and thought has also suffered an irreparable loss. He said that Dr. Patar has created a special recognition of Punjabi literature and language all over the world and his contribution to the field of Punjabi poetry cannot be forgotten. Dr. Surinderpal Mand, Head of the Punjabi Department, presented his views on the contribution made by Dr. Surjit Patar in the field of Punjabi language, harmony and thought. He said that due to Dr. Patar’s sudden departure from this world, Punjab has lost a leader of Punjab, Punjabi language and Punjabi people at the national and international level. He said that Dr. Patar was a native of village Pattar Kalan of district Jalandhar and he worked as a professor in Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana for a long time. He received the Bharatiya Sahitya Akademi Award for his book of poetry Sulagadi Varnamala in Darkness and was also honored with the Padma Shri Award by the Government of India for his services to the field of literature.
Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar, a reputed educational institution of North India, has commenced admissions for graduation and post-graduation classes for the academic year 2024-25. While giving this information, Principal Dr. Jaspal Singh said that the college is always committed to providing quality education according to the need of the times. He said that in today’s era technology is playing an important role because of which new scientific courses have also been started in the college along with traditional ones. He said that admissions for under-graduate classes like BA, BA Journalism and Mass Communication, B.Sc. (Medical, Non-Medical, Economics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Biotechnology), B.Com, BBA, BCA, B.Voc (Software Development), B.Design (Multimedia), Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) are ongoing while admissions for post-graduation classes like MA (Punjabi, English, History, Political Science, Economics, Geography, Music Vocal), M.Sc. (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, IT, Biotechnology), Master in Tourism Management, M.Voc (Web Technology and Multimedia) are also going to start. He said that in addition to this, diploma courses DCA, DCM, DC Animation, PGDBM, PGDCA are also being run in the college, in which students are showing a lot of interest. He said that the students of the college are playing a leading role in sports and cultural activities of Guru Nanak Dev University as well. He said that during the year 2023-24, 176 students of the college were included in the merit list of the university. He informed that the college library is the richest and most advanced library in the area, with huge reading halls, a vast range of books related to every subject and all the modern facilities. He added that special scholarship is given to the students coming merit list in +2 and University exams. He also appealed to the parents and students to visit the college and enrol their children for higher education.
